The 2023 Hispanic Heritage Month Observance Theme, "Prosperidad, poder y progreso" recognizes how the contributions of the diverse ethnic, religious, cultural and linguistic groups of the Hispanic population has strengthened and continues to shape our national identity as leaders in artistic, economic and political endeavors.
Award-winning recording artist and cultural ambassador, Lula Valdivia, a charismatic singer who engages her audience through her beautiful melodic voice, unique interpretations of traditional music and ability to transmit her love of her native and adopted countries through her music. Lula recently performed in Peru and Chile, where she also presented Josefa, a book she wrote which recounts the story and recipes of her grandmother, Josefa, who elevated Peruvian culinary arts through her vision and skills through her famous restaurant in Arequipa.
Anthropologist, folklorist, author and educator, Rosa Carhallanqui. The founder of Peruincafolk Company, Rosa and her dancers will present traditional dances from the rich folklore of Peru's coast, mountains and Amazon region. A specialist in Marinera Norteña, she introduced the Marinera to world dance competitions and Peruvian dance to schools throughout the tri-state area.
